How to add an assessment to both tiers

Adding your assessment to both tiers means it always stays on the tracker, no matter whether the student changes tier

Students on tiered subjects can be assigned to either the Higher or Foundation tier on Pupil Progress, depending on which you are planning on entering them for. This means that data is clear and accurate, and also that no duplicate grades are being produced that would impact your school's A8 or P8 scores.

However, sometimes it's not clear which tier a student will be on when they sit their GCSE, and adding an assessment for only one of the tiers means that any students' data will be hidden should they change from one to the other.

In these cases, it makes most sense to add your assessments to both the Higher and Foundation tiers. By doing this, any data entered will remain on the tracker regardless of whether you change their tier of entry, with any custom grade boundaries that you set kept consistent also. Whilst useful for any student who moves tiers, this can also be really handy for Year 9 and 10 classes where all students are sitting the same assessments.

To add an assessment to both tiers, first toggle Tools from your tracker and then click Add Customised Assessment. You're also able to access this same page from the home page, by hovering over Tracking -> Assessments -> Add Customised Assessment. On this page, you're able to select the course specification as well as which unit you'd like to add the assessment to just below in the Target Trackers area. In this case, you want to select the same unit for both the Higher and Foundation tiers, as highlighted in the GIF below:

Providing that you do this, you can then go and set up the rest of your assessment as you need, whether this is a single mark or at QLA. Once you return to the tracker and begin entering data, you can be sure that any data you enter will be visible regardless of which tier the student is showing on.
